He is either in the diplomatic corps, or is a contractor with the army ... not sure which.<br /><br />@Rupa and Saurabh - Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed reading the book. It is a great story, and a book I recommended highly to my wife to read. It is just that after all the talk, I probably started it with very high expectations, looking for high art literature. The Kite Runner is a great story. An enjoyable read in a Slumdog Millionnaire (Q&A) sort of way, but in the end is a bit too filmy for me. That said though, who says filmy is a bad thing?
